The basic Department of Machine design of onboard electronic computing equipment was organized in 1980 by a joint order of the Ministry of higher education of the USSR and the Ministry of aviation industry of the USSR (order No. 44/19, 1980) and is located geographically in "Elektroavtomatika", St. Petersburg.

The Department of information technology security held the conference ISPIT-2015: Information Security and Protection of Information Technology.
ISPIT-2015 is the first international conference of ITMO University on information security and information security technologies.
